»De-vir«

CIA. DITA / FAULLER, FORTALEZA

European premier
Talk with the audience: April 17, after the performance

Four dancers on stage demonstrate the manipulation of the body by its environment. The body is defined as a medium that advances and is continuously fragmented by acceleration, reverberation and reduced speed in order to produce a new appearance. »De-vir« suggests intensifying these undulations and invents a new creator to reassemble the place and the order of the basic elements, which shape the appearance, the physical structure of a person.

Fauller began studying dance in 1997 at the 1st Ceará Dance Biennale. In 1999, he was already working as a dancer in the Colégio de Dança do Ceará (Dance College of Ceará), where he began his choreographic research in the year 2000.

One year later, he premiered his first piece: “Um Momento Delicado” (A Special Moment). The piece and the accompanying video of the piece were presented at the 3rd Ceará Dance Biennale and the 12th Ceará Filmfestival. Soon after “Cabaret Inmagem” followed.

The Compagnie DITA was founded in 2003 with the premiere of the piece “De-vir”.

In 2005 Fauller created the piece “INC.“, which was considered in SECULT’s call for proposals for the Advancement of Culture and was taken under contract by the French company Association fin novembre. That same year saw the premiere of the piece “Cover” under the direction of Rachid Ouramdane. Fauller also contributed to the montage of “Mauvais Genre under director Alain Buffard at the 4th Ceará Dance Biennale.

Over the last three years, he has established himself as a dancer and choreographer in Brazil and Europe.

The German dance critic Sandra Luzina wrote in her review of “De-Vir” in the daily newspaper “Der Tagesspiegel” from March 29th, 2007 that Fauller presents the body as “[…] flesh, surface, physique, an object of study and of desire […] his choreography presents a counter-image to the otherwise glamorous Brazilian productions.”

And adds: “His movement concepts are equally radical: At first it seems as if the bodies aren’t moving at all. However, in spite of the motionless on the surface you can feel the pulsation.”

Citing the choreographer Fauller himself, she concludes: “In Fortaleza, “De-vir” almost provoked a scandal. All dancers performed naked, even the famous Ballerina Wilemara Barros appeared naked for the first time. She is a diva of dance. She is a star. It was therefore difficult for the audience to see her naked. It was like dragging an idol down from her pedestal […].“
